Learning French

Throughout Quebec and in the North Shore, French is the dominant language, and being able to understand and speak French will enable you to integrate more fully in society as well as find employment. No matter how long you have previously lived in Quebec or if you are new to the province, you can always take classes to improve or develop your French language skills. The Quebec government through the ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion offers a variety of different courses to improve or develop your French through part-time, full-time, and online courses.

Visit the Quebec Government Website

French Courses

There are also French courses (“cours de francisation”) offered locally that are usually free for new arrivals; less recent arrivals who wish to improve their French may have to pay a small fee.

The North Shore Community Association is a non-profit regional organization dedicated to serving, representing, and instilling pride in the English-speaking community of Quebec’s North Shore. Our aim is to empower residents and to strengthen the community across the region by working to make information and resources available, by facilitating community initiatives, by encouraging and improving communication, by promoting access to services, by developing partnerships and by increasing the visibility of the English-speaking community. Together, we are building a vital, informed and strong community.
